The Corrections Planning and
Programs Division (CPPD) administers grants, develops
programs, conducts research and evaluations, and distributes
federal and state grants that provide for the construction
of local juvenile and adult detention facilities; reduces
the threat of juvenile crime and delinquency (Juvenile
Crime Enforcement and Accountability Challenge Grant
Program); and focuses on repeat and high-risk offenders
(Repeat Offender Prevention Program). CPPD also assists
counties (through the Juvenile Justice Crime Prevention
Act Program) in developing and implementing comprehensive
multiagency juvenile justice plans that include programs
for at-risk youth that focus on crime prevention, intervention,
suppression, and incapacitation.
CPPD fosters collaborative and integrative approaches
in partnership with state and local governments, as
well as the private sector and private/nonprofit service
providers, working together to achieve continued improvement
in the conditions of California's delivery of programs
to juveniles and adults.
CPPD activities include:
- Administering grant funds for the
construction, remodeling, replacement, and deferred
maintenance of county juvenile and adult detention
facilities for the violent and serious offender;
- Working closely with local officials
and communities to ensure the development and implementation
of comprehensive strategies for preventing and effectively
responding to juvenile crime;
- Engaging local juvenile and adult
stakeholders in the development of programs leading
to the improvement of conditions and the delivery
of programs for local juveniles and adults;
- Conducting research and evaluation
on the effectiveness and delivery of programs; and
- Managing grants for local
adult and juvenile corrections to leverage limited
local resources.
